Up the hill, down the valley.

It was a bright start to the day so Meg and I set off up the hill to Castell Dinas Bran.

We reached the top 25 minutes after leaving the basin. That’s my training done for the day! Fantastic up there, very atmospheric.IMG_3282

Dinas Bran can be loosely translated as “Hill of the Crow”…IMG_3292

Arriving back the sun was high enough now to light up the basin.

Every July the town hosts the famous international music festival.

After a bite to eat I dropped down to the town to get some shopping in, crossing the Dee Valley Railway and the river on the way.DSC_0300
Don’t let the sunny pictures fool you; it was cold in the wind today, quite a bit of ice lingering in shady spots.

Llangollen was founded in around the 7th Century by St Collen, from whom it takes it’s name. The river bridge was built in 1345, and widened to take modern traffic in the 1960s.

Long run tomorrow morning, which will take me to Chirk and back. The weather looks good, dry but cold, and mainly windless.
Don’t forget, you can sponsor me for the Greater Manchester Marathon by clicking on the link to the right, or texting GEOF58 £5 to 70070. Still plenty of time, the race isn’t till April.
Thanks, Terry and Pam, for the latest contribution. Enjoy Stratford.
I’m raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Hi Geoff and Mags. I see you are moored in the basin. We were there in the summer and were told the basin was closed in the winter due to the houses above winning some planning dispute. But this must have been the wrong information ...regards Gary and Carolyn. http://nbinca.blogspot.co.uk
