Yesterday we had visitors for an hour or so. Dave and Barbara came to find us after going over to their boat, Liberty Bell, at Shobnall. They were over from home to clear the boat out ready for putting it up for sale, one of several trips they’ve done from home in Newark.
It’s a shame, but after 19 years of mainly summer cruising they’ve decided to call it a day and hang up their windlasses. So Liberty Bell is for sale, a 57’ cruiser stern, built by Stenson. She was built to a good specification and is still in very good condition, having been well maintained. And she’ll be sold with full cruising equipment and even including pots, pans and crockery.
She’ll be appearing on Shobnall Marina’s boat sales page here shortly. Or if you can’t wait give them a call.
So this morning, in bright sunshine, we untied and set off from Alrewas. There have been a few boats about the last couple of days, with the river section open but the level hovering just below the red zone on the marker.
It was breezy but fine as we worked our way up Bagnall Lock, then Common Lock, where the new Fradley Marina is slowly taking shape.
We passed this plastic cruiser sitting on the bottom on the way. Someone’s pride and joy once upon a time.
Heading towards Hunts Lock, the first of the five up past Fradley Junction, there is a length of long-term moorings on the offside, and I spotted this ingenious solution to get the best from a large solar panel….
Up Keepers Lock we pulled in to drop off rubbish and recycling, surprised at how quiet the moorings are.
Junction Lock, with The Swan opposite the junction with the Coventry Canal.
We’d had a short shower a little earlier, but the sun came out again for us to go up Middle Lock and Shadehouse Lock, before we pulled in on the moorings above.
Shadehouse Lock, top of the Fradley Locks.
That’ll do for today.
We had lunch then I got two more roof panels sanded ready for repainting. I’d previously done the repairs but the weather hasn’t been fit to do any more. We had another sharp shower soon after I’d packed my gear away, so that helped wash some of the dust off. If it’s looking anything like decent tomorrow I’ll mask off the borders first thing and paint the panels. Should be done by lunchtime.
Locks 7, miles 2½
