Short day into Loughborough

After a night at Miller’s Bridge we were up reasonably early, on the move at 08:30 to Little Moor Lane and our Tesco delivery. By 10:30 we’d loaded up the groceries and were on our way into Loughborough. We turned around and moored near Chain Bridge, which marks the junction of the Loughborough and Leicester Navigations.

Tonight we’re expecting visitors, my sister and her fellar Paul are coming for a drink.

Tomorrow and Sunday nights we’ll be spending in Pillings Lock Marina, before setting off down to the Trent on Monday.

On a non-boaty theme, it’s been confirmed that we’ve two major athletes running the Great North Run with us in three weeks time. The Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie, winner of several Olympic and World Championship Golds, breaker of 27 world records in his 20 year career (he’s now 39), and considered to be the best distance runner in the world, will be there. He’s not a stranger to road races in the UK, he’s won the Great Manchester Run 10km four times, and also the 2010 Great North.

Taking on the legend is our own Mo Farah, recent star of London 2012 with Golds in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres. He’s also world and European record holder at 5,000m and British record holder at the ½ marathon.

Should be an interesting race, although I’ll be too far behind to see any of it!

Don’t forget, I’m running to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. You can sponsor me online here.
