We headed back towards Gloucester last Saturday, stopping at Rea Bridge for the extended bank holiday weekend.
You wouldn't have thought it but this small wooden launch kicked up more wash than the hotel boat Edward Elgar!
I'd started on tidying up the gunnels, sanding and repainting the whole length each side while we were moored at Sharpness. I'd got one side done but ran out of discs for my orbital sander before I got the left side ready for painting. So I'd ordered some for collection at Quedgeley, and the nearest mooring is at Rea Bridge, also handy for Tesco too.
Monday saw us head back to Saul Junction, we needed fuel and a replacement gas bottle, and both were available from Joe Fuels (used to be APC), just up from Fretherne Bridge.
We stopped the night near the junction, meeting up with friends Carol and Ian (Calan Lan) who we last saw up on the Llangollen last winter. We caught up with the news and arranged to travel together up the Severn and onto the Avon.
TS Irene heading back to Sharpness after the Tall Ships Festival.
Tuesday morning we headed a mile or so back, mooring near the site of the old Hardwicke Swing Bridge in a quiet spot to get the rest of the sanding and painting finished.
That'll do...
I managed to get it done between the showers, then TS La Malouine went past at a rate of knots and bashed us against the piling, scratching the new paint! She and Irene had been delayed in Gloucester Docks, stuck on the bottom. So maybe they had some time to make up...
Judicious use of a paintbrush sorted the paint.
So yesterday saw us head back to Gloucester, mooring just before High Orchard Bridge near Sainsbury's.
Back into Gloucester, we moored on the left in front of the new apartments. Calan Lan is already there.
Tomorrow (Saturday) we'll be back on the river, heading upstream to Tewkesbury and the River Avon.
Locks 0, miles 17½
